An XXL giant for Christmas

This year, the Christmas tree in front of the Reichstag in Berlin comes from the Seesen Forestry Office near Hahnenklee in the district of Goslar. The approximately 36-meter-high spruce, which is estimated to have grown for 80 years in the Upper Harz region, was chosen by the Bundestag as a symbol of Christmas.
With great precision and technology, the tree, which weighs several tons, was secured in the morning with the help of a mobile crane, felled, and then sent on its journey. Colossus Logistics GmbH & Co. KG took care of the complex logistics for the transport. With a total length of around 32 meters, a width of 3 meters, a height of 4 meters, and a weight of around 40 tons, the heavy transport set off for Berlin.
Such specimens are rare – and that is precisely why they are a real challenge for forestry experts. To avoid damage, the tree is secured to the crane as soon as it is felled. A tree with history for the festive season.
